Young Ruddy Shelducks Playing Tag

This article is so titled because they looked like they were playing tag in this video clip.

The video clip is about three brothers of young Ruddy Shelduck at the Waterfowl Aviery. They were chasing each other, often submerging themselves in water. They moved so quickly that they splashed water on nearby visitors. I really wonder what their behaviour actually means.....

Now that the ducks get used to the Aviary well, they are very active.
Their range of activity gets wider day by day. In the morning of the day when these pictures and a video clip were taken, they were nibbling a mat next to the resting stand of Gori the White Pelican. In the afternoon they played tag again in the pool next to the exit of the Aviary.

A shot of grooming on top of the rock. Some greenish glossy feathers are seen near the wing.
The young ducks, with remnants of grayish downs, look less beautiful than adult.

A shot after swimming in the pool. You can see that gray down on its breast get wet. Such down remains on its two brothers as well. When this down is replaced by brown feathers it will indicate that they have become adults.
