Today we focus on Roy and May the Silvery-Cheeked Hornbills, a couple of the largest hornbill in the Garden.

Silvery-Cheeked Hornbill(Bycanistes brevis) is characterized by large casque-like bulge on the bill and silver-white feathers on its cheek.
Larger one is Roy(male), and smaller one is May(female).

A shot taken recently(above) and shortly after the Garden Opened in 2001(below). They usually sit on the perch as a pair and face the same direction. You can see that their bills have grown much.

Breeding behaviour among them was frequently observed shortly after we started exhibiting them, but it's quite rare probably due to their age. Anyway, it's quite amusing to see them sitting next to each other.
